Hey, I am Sasha Gershannikova
I am an Ukrainian photographer and visual artist based in Milan, Italy. My practice explores intimacy, identity, the body, desire, memory, and the relationship between everyday life and visual representation. I work across analogue and instant photography, combining documentary observation with personal and conceptual approaches.
My Ukrainian roots and my experience of building a life in Italy have shaped the way I see people, places, and cultural identities. Living between different cultural contexts has made me particularly attentive to the space between belonging and distance, familiarity and observation. Working in the luxury retail industry in Milan has also influenced my visual language, drawing my attention to the contrast between polished appearances and the realities that exist behind them.
My current projects include Exploring Male Sensuality, a Polaroid series examining the male body, sexuality, vulnerability, and beauty in everyday life; Ambient Realism Series, focused on spontaneous moments and the quiet poetry of ordinary environments; and Selling the Dream, a documentary project looking behind the polished image of luxury retail and the people who sustain it.
